Introduction
Members of Se hang out amongst the Finnish first generation punk
circles and almost all of the
songs they released before their first album can be seen fulfilling
even the rather strict criteria for "real punk". This first album called "...ja
me tehtiin rakkautta",
released in 1979, is however something different: there's lots of acoustic
instruments, and it is a "concept album", the four songs tell a story
of an end of an affair. The Finnish punk movement was still strong,
but this album isn't punk rock. Is it then progressive rock?
(Punks hated prog.) (In 2001 Tommi Liimatta of
Absoluuttinen Nollapiste made a list of "best of prog rock" and "...ja me
tehtiin rakkautta" made it to top 10.) "...ja me tehtiin rakkautta" is realism, which is against the definition of prog. In punk movement realism was
valued high, so Se wasn't kicked out the movement because of this
record. However, their reputation as intellectual hippies got
stronger. Se never performed the songs of this album live, and in the
time of the release they were already playing songs from their next
album "Pahaa unta?".
